Take a bottle of 'The REEL Spray' and simply spray your reel thoroughly and let it air dry. NO rubbing, scrubbing or further rinsing required! Do the same thing to rod guides to remove the green corrosion that builds up and keep it off! Spray your lures, hooks, pliers, knives, etc as well.
For equipment that has corrosion build-up, an overnight soak in a 1:35 solution of SALT-X is all that is required to remove the salt build-up. Inspect your gear and if clean remove it, or return it to the solution for a further soak. Once the equipment is clean and free of corrosion, a regular dip after each trip will keep your valuable fishing gear in tiptop condition.
When salt water gets on a surface, the water evaporates, but the salt remains. Repeated exposure and this salt builds up, binds together and salt crystals are formed. These salt crystals can start a grinding, sanding like action on gears and bearings when a fishing reel is being cranked and can bind up the gears in a reel and make it malfunction.
